A Look Back at Our Gourmet Vegan Tour of Tasmania
February 2026
It was a real pleasure to share our first Gourmet Vegan Tour of Tasmania with such a wonderful group of guests. Over eight days we explored Tasmania’s landscapes, history and wildlife while enjoying some truly memorable vegan food along the way.
We began our journey in Hobart, staying at the beautiful Henry Jones Art Hotel. This 5 star hotel is a destination in its own right, a former jam factory that has been converted into a hotel filled with contemporary art while preserving its historic character.
Over the following days we explored a wide range of places across the island. We stood on the summit of Mount Kunanyi looking out over Hobart, learned about convict history at the Cascades Female Factory, and visited the world renowned MONA gallery. We also spent time in nature at Mount Field National Park, explored Cataract Gorge Reserve, joined an Aboriginal bush food experience, and visited the east coast including the beautiful Bay of Fires, with its striking orange lichen-covered rocks, white sand and turquoise water.
Food, of course, was at the heart of our tour. Throughout the journey we enjoyed meals that showcased local produce, with chefs creating curated vegan menus for us. We experienced everything from elegant restaurant meals to visits with producers and food artisans.
Two dining experiences stood out in particular. One was our private tour of Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, where we learned about the sanctuary’s wildlife rescue work and met kangaroos, wombats, Tasmanian devils and more before enjoying dinner on-site surrounded by the sounds of the animals going about their business. It was a very special way to connect with the native animals.
Another highlight was an unforgettable dinner at Tunnel Hill Mushroom Farm. The chefs prepared a six-course gourmet menu where each course featured a different variety of mushroom, including dessert! It was a creative and beautifully executed meal served in a historic railroad tunnel.
Along the way we also spotted plenty of Australian wildlife, something many of our guests had been hoping for but what truly made the experience special was the people. Over shared meals, walks, and excursions conversations flowed easily and friendships formed. By the end of the journey it felt less like a group of travellers and more like a group of friends.
Here are a some photos from the tour that capture some of the places, food and moments we experienced along the way.
