Restaurants, cafes, bakeries and more...
As vegan food lovers, one of the questions we're asked most often is: "Where should I eat in Sydney?"
We've spent plenty of time exploring Sydney's vegan food scene, and one thing that never fails to impress us is the amount of variety on offer. From Japanese and Thai to Italian, Indian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Mexican, modern Australian cuisine and more, there's something for every taste and budget. Whether you're after a quick lunch, a decadent treat or a special occasion meal, Sydney is packed with fantastic plant-based options.
By the way, this blog was originally going to be "Our 5 Favourite Vegan Places to Eat in Sydney". That lasted about five minutes because every time we tried to narrow the list down, another restaurant demanded its place. Eventually we admitted defeat and expanded it to eight.
So, in no particular order, here are our eight favourite places to eat as a vegan in Sydney:
Yellow
When people tell us vegan food is boring, Yellow Restaurant is usually the first place that comes to mind to prove them wrong. Located in Potts Point, Yellow has built a reputation as one of Sydney's most celebrated plant-based dining experiences. It's also the only vegan restaurant in Sydney to be awarded 2 Chefs Hats in the prestigious Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide.
Yellow's seasonal tasting menus transform fresh produce into dishes that are elegant, inventive and beautifully presented. The vegetables are the stars of the show and every plate demonstrates just how creative and sophisticated plant-based cooking can be.
Why we love it: Yellow is our go-to choice for a special occasion. The creativity, presentation and attention to detail make every meal feel like an experience rather than just dinner.
Yulli's
Few restaurants have earned the loyal following that Yulli's enjoys. Nestled in the inner Sydney suburb of Surry Hills, Yulli's Restaurant has been delighting diners for years with its innovative menu and relaxed atmosphere. While everything on the menu is worth exploring, their tasting menu is particularly impressive.
The dishes are creative without being pretentious, showcasing flavours and ingredients from across Asia and beyond. It's the sort of meal that reminds you how exciting vegetables can be when they're treated with imagination and care.
Why we love it: Yulli's is the perfect place to take non-vegans for dinner if you want to impress them. They evenso have their own range of locally brewed vegan beers to sample.
Funky Pies
You can't say you've had traditional Aussie food without having a "meat" pie so for vegans wanting to experience the version version of this Australian classic, Funky Pies is an essential stop. They've perfected the art of creating traditional Aussie pies while keeping everything completely plant-based. The pastry is golden and flaky, the fillings are rich and satisfying, and the result is pure comfort food.
Why we love it: Funky Pies delivers all the comfort and nostalgia of a this Australian favourite and it's just around the corner from beautiful Bondi Beach.
Towzen
There is something incredibly comforting about a great bowl of ramen, and Towzen serves some of the best vegan ramen we've found anywhere, not just in Sydney but in the world.
Originating in Kyoto, Japan, Towzen focuses on quality ingredients and carefully crafted broths that deliver remarkable depth of flavour. Every bowl feels thoughtfully prepared, balancing richness, texture and authenticity.
Why we love it: Towzen has put as much love into its surroundings as it has its food, it's decor and tranquility are so authentic you'll really feel like you've stepped into another country.
Gunners Barracks
At Gunners Barracks it's not just about the food; it's about the entire experience. Set against stunning Sydney harbour views, Gunners Barracks offers one of Sydney's most memorable vegan high tea experiences. Delicate sandwiches, beautiful pastries, sweet treats and endless tea are served in an elegant setting with teh best views in town.
Why we love it: The vegan scones with jam & cream (amazing!) and the beautiful historic building.
Miss Sina
Miss Sina Bakery is known for producing Sydney's most exceptional vegan pastries and cakes, and has a devoted following. The display cabinet is always filled with irresistible creations that make choosing just one item almost impossible. Miss Sina's is so popular that when they release a new variety there are often queues around the block.
Why we love it: Every single thing they make is delicious!
The Chippo Hotel
Not every meal needs to be refined and sophisticated, sometimes what you really want is comfort food, and that's exactly where The Chippo shines, their menu features vegan versions of classic pub favourites that deliver all the flavour, satisfaction and indulgence you'd hope for.
Why we love it: 100% vegan comfort food in a welcoming casual pub environment with fun trivia on Tuesday nights!
Suzy Spoon's Vegetarian Butcher
Suzy Spoon's Vegetarian Butcher occupies a special place in Sydney's vegan community and have been around for the longest time. Part butcher shop, part deli and part takeaway destination, it showcases just how diverse and tasty plant-based food can be. From meat alternatives and deli items to ready-to-eat snacks and meals, there's always something interesting to discover.
Why we love it: Their name! And that it's great for picnic supplies and a yummy take-away lunch

Final Words
If you visit any of these vegan restaurants, cafes or bakeries and love what they do, please consider leaving them a Google review. Independent vegan businesses rely heavily on word of mouth, and a few kind words can help spread the word so more people can discover them too.
